Right away:

Is CBD legal as an active ingredient in aromatic oils?

We are often asked this question and we are happy to answer it.

OSIRIS meets all legal requirements and regulations for manufacturing and distribution of CBD aromatic care oils.

Here is an excerpt from the Cosmetics Ordinance BAG (Swiss Federal Office of Public Health) Swiss Medic from 27.02.2017:

Products offered as cosmetics Cannabidiol are regulated by article 54 (1) of the Food- and Commodities Regulation (LGV SR 817.02), where the list of prohibited substances set out in annex II to regulation (EG) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products 1, entry No 306: ‘narcotics, natural and synthetic: any substance listed in tables I and II of the United Nations Convention on narcotic drugs, signed in New York on 30 March 1961.’

Cannabis is listed in this table I of the United Nations Convention on Narcotic Drugs and, by definition, refers to the flower or fruit stalks of the hemp weed plant (except the seeds and the leaves not mixed with such stalls) to which the resin has not been deprived, whatever their use. Since CBD is derived from cannabis, its use in cosmetics is therefore prohibited. However, seeds and leaves not mixed with such stalls are excluded from this prohibition.

In addition, as with any other cosmetic product, the safety of each ingredient must be evidenced in a safety report and the product must comply with the definition of a cosmetic product as defined in Article 53 (1) LGV.

How we do it

  • Production according to environmentally friendly CO2 processes and international guidelines for aroma care

  • Cultivation from controlled Demeter farms

  • Close cooperation with European pharmacies and Aromatologists

  • Over 90% of the base oils are organic

Why we use CBD

The medical use of the hemp plant was already practiced 5000 years ago. Meanwhile, 489 essential components in the hemp plant could be determined.

CBD is therefore considered to be an effective, well-tolerated and above all safe component of the hemp plant and is particularly interesting for self-administration, since it can develop anti-inflammatory, anti-epileptic and anti-schizophrenic properties, without a damping side effect.

The use of cannabidiol in the complementary area is increasing in popularity due to the positive experience reports.

CBD in detail

Selection of significant, previously investigated mechanisms of action of CBD:

Like capsaicin, CBD stimulates the vanilloid receptor type1. This stimulation could contribute to an analgesic effect. (Bisogno et al., 2001)

CBD binds to the nucleoside transporter-1 and enhances the adenosine signaling pathway, thereby harmonizing increased neutron transfer (norepinephrine, adrenaline). (Malfait et al., 2000)

CBD binds to the GPR55 receptor, complementing its anti-inflammatory effect. (Li et al., 2013)

Cannabinoids, including CBD, are potent free radical catchers and have cell-protecting properties. (Li et al., 2013)

And that’s what the papers says

‘CBD oils are on the rise and pushing more and more into the market. However, there are many differences between the products and the effect. While many people still think cannabidiol oil has an intoxicating effect, we would like to inform you about this oil. Because the CBD oil does not cause any psychoactive effects and is therefore completely legal. Although it has no approval as a remedy, it has numerous healing properties and especially cancer patients benefit from this.

More and more patients with this disease swear by cannabidiol oil. In addition, it has an antibacterial effect against MRSA, antiepileptic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory and even relieves nausea. That’s why CBD Oil is so popular and completely legal. ‘ Source: Nature Institute, IMS Media, New Zealand

CBD oil contains a lot of important ingredients. The human organism cannot produce these themselves, so they are essential. It contains not only vitamins and fiber, but also minerals and proteins. CBD Oil can provide the essential fatty acids important to the body (e.g. omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids) in an optimal composition ratio of 3: 1.

Both fatty acids are important for regeneration and cell renewal and play a crucial role in the development of cell membranes. They are also said to help reduce inflammatory processes and have a positive effect on blood pressure. Also included is the rare gamma-linolenic acid, which is also said to have anti-inflammatory effects. ‘ Source: zeitung.de

‘Both substances – THC and CBD – have an antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Unlike THC, CBD has no psychoactive, hi-negative effects. The typical side effects of THC such as dizziness, memory loss, concentration and cognitive disorders usually do not occur after consuming CBD. ‘ Source: Focus 06.2015
